Bicentennial Poster Contest Winners Announced

The Lillian Jones Museum sponsored a poster contest called Ohio: My Favorite Place for fourth and fifth graders in Jackson County. There were 58 entries in the fourth grade division and 13 entries in the fifth grade division. Students who participated were from Christian Life Academy, Parkview School, Jackson Elementary, Kinnison School, Bloomfield School, and Homeschoolers. All of the posters were enjoyable and unique, and we want to say thank you to those students who participated.
Five judges from outside the museum had the difficult task of picking our winners. They enjoyed looking at all of the posters and reading about each student’s favorite place in Ohio. The winners were:
Fourth Grade
Ashley Chafin - 1st Place
Brandi Nickels - 2nd Place
Fifth Grade
Weston Ruggles - 1st Place
Shelbi Potter - 2nd Place
Honorable Mention
Macy Johnson
Katie DeLay
Kevin Fannin
Elizabeth Large
Marissa Campbell
Valerie Howell
Nicole Chapman
Michaella Newell
William Newell
Tommi Gilkey
Travis Oglesbee
The two first place winners will receive $100 Savings Bonds, and the two second place winners will receive $50 Savings Bonds. The four winning posters will be on display at the museum through December 2003. All other posters will be in a rotating display through the end of the school year.
Industrial Jackson Exhibit Coming Up Soon!
We are accepting items for our next exhibit on Industrial Jackson which will begin February 18, 2003. We need items pertaining to any of the businesses and industries that have been in Jackson County during the past 200 years. This is one of the special exhibits we have planned for the Bicentennial.
We are looking for items from hospitals, stores, car dealerships, newspapers, dairies, coal mines, furnaces, railroads, food establishments, factories, etc. Possible items of interest include photographs, advertising memorabilia, items made by various businesses, other memorabilia pertaining to businesses/industries, etc. If you have something that the museum could borrow, please let us know as soon as possible. All possible care will be taken with each item loaned to the museum.
